Regions

How does that Woody Guthrie song go, again? “From California to the New York Island, from the Redwood Forest to the gulf stream waters, this land was made…” for puppy transporting. That’s it, right? Well, at Snow Creek Farms, it’s definitely right!

We realize not everyone is in driving distance of Snow Creek, so for the past eighteen years we have worked to make it possible to get your new family members to you safely no matter where you are in the United States—Southwest, Northeast, Midwest, you name it.

Jumping Jack

In this case, Jack jumps very high—as high as the clouds, given that our preferred method of transport is air travel. That’s right, your Jack Russell puppy will be arriving by airplane for a flat fee of $400. Snow Creek has found this method of travel to be the safest and most effective for long-distance transport. All the airlines we utilize have well-tried programs in place for transporting precious cargo, that is, living and breathing cargo!

We’re here every step of the way.

Nothing is more important to us than the surety of Jack’s well-being before, during, and after transit as well as your peace of mind. Like transporting people by air, transporting puppies can come with its challenges, such as weather, delays, or cancellations. Our partner airlines’ pet safety programs are in place to meet these challenges with efficiency. Likewise, team members of Snow Creek are here for support when you have questions or concerns about the journey. Below are links to our most frequently used airlines’ web pages detailing pet shipping.

Airborne Jack

Typically, Jack will fly via Delta, American, or United Airlines from Baton Rouge, LA or New Orleans, LA to a hub city and then to your regional airport. The best airline option largely depends on the season and your pup’s destination within the U.S. For instance, if Jack is traveling outside the continental U.S., say, to Alaska, we may utilize a different airline such as AlaskaAir. A team member will be happy to discuss region and season-specific travel information to help you in choosing the right line of transport for your new pup.

Baggage Check

We like to keep travel light since Jack will be gliding through the air for a few hours at most. He/ she will arrive in a crate equipped with a puppy bed and a holder for food and water. Your pup’s paperwork will arrive separately, as we mail it to the address you provide three days prior to the journey.

Upon Arrival…

Hooray, Jack has landed and is ready to take that car ride to his/ her forever home! To make the last part of the trek as smooth as possible, you’ll need some essentials: a water bottle filled with water, a plastic bag (to dispose of the bed from the plane crate, as there will be soiling), and few a clean towels for drying and re-lining the crate. DO NOT feed before or during the car ride, as this will likely result in car sickness. Pup will be hungry but wait until you get home to feed pup. When that time comes feed only a small amount while pup settles in. Remember, there is so much new stimuli, and little nervous/digestive systems take time to settle.

West Coast

Jack Russell Terriers Go West!

At Snow Creek Farms, we will airship your Jack Russell pup from Louisiana to the hub city nearest and most convenient to your home on the West Coast. In the past, we’ve shipped to the hub cities of Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento, Portland, and Seattle.

Rain or Shine

If there is one thing Jacks are, it’s resilient! From puppy-hood to adulthood, they do well in all types of weather from the rainy days of the Northwest to sunny Southern California and are excellent in adapting to different conditions. In the way of resilience, Jacks are also great with the little ones. Jacks are one of the few breeds that may still have energy after the little humans have run out of it!

Fur Instance

All Jack Russell terriers, short-haired or rough-haired, have an undercoat. The undercoat is full in the winter and thinner in the summer, with shedding in springtime. You can expect the coat to follow the climate. If you live on a portion of the coast that has a warmer climate, such as San Diego, expect your Jack’s undercoat to stay on the thinner side. Who needs all that fur in the heat?!

Outdoor Outings

When taking your Jack Russell pup outside, it is important to begin leash training soon. A harness is best when training with a leash as collars create a choking sensation for puppies. Note that your pup will want to dart! Attention is short-lived.

But don’t let short attention spans stop you from taking your pup on hikes through the woods or walks on the beach. The more your pup can practice walking alongside you, the more routine this becomes in adulthood. You’re setting up good habits and future opportunities to bond with your Jack.

Getting to Know All About You

Even with resilience and boundless energy of the Jack Russell Terrier, it is still important for you as caregivers to be mindful of how your Jack responds to different environments. You’ll learn that personalities vary greatly from Jack to Jack. It’s an adventure to follow your Jack Russell form puppyhood to adulthood because you often never know what personality you will get!

East Coast

Jack Russell Terriers Go East!

The time has come for us here at Snow Creek Farms to send your Jack Russell pup on that airborne journey! Pup will fly from Louisiana to the hub city nearest your home on the East Coast, such as Washington, D.C., Boston, Charleston, Portland, Melbourne, FL, or Manchester, NH. Then, it’s onto their forever home!

Weathering Weather and People

Jack Russell terriers will do well in virtually all types of weather from the distinct season-changes of the Northeast to the heat an humidity of Florida. They are full of resilience and excellent in adapting to different conditions. Speaking of resilience, Jacks can keep up with the tumble and roll of little humans. Oftentimes, when the kids have run out of energy, you’ll see that the Jack Russell terrier is still going strong.

Coats on the Coast

All Jack Russell terriers, short-haired or rough-haired, experience shedding, which comes from the thinning an thickening of an undercoat. In the winter, the undercoat is full and thins out during the springtime to set them up for summer. If you live in a place along the East Coast where seasons are not so distinct, the undercoat’s shedding pattern will match that.

Outings Outside

As far as walking your pup—do it often! That energy has to go somewhere. With walking pup comes the all-important leash-training, a task that is best done sooner rather than later. Note that collars tend to bring about a choking sensation for puppies as they will inevitably pull and tug. A harness is a better option for leash training. Puppies may have short attention spans, but don’t let those stop you from taking your pup on outdoor adventures. These can serve as bonding opportunities which are the foundation of the routines you set up with pup.

Getting to Know Pup

Understanding that each puppy is unique, even with resilience and boundless energy, is an important part of the attention you give your Jack Russell terrier. There are a variety of personalities that can appear across the breed. You’ll see your Jack’s quirks start to surface as they grow from puppyhood to adulthood and have a blast watching them unfold.
